In August (2016) I celebrated my 28th birthday and my family came over to Sheffield for the weekend to help me say goodbye to another great year. It was supposed to just be mum and dad that visited, but then Holli (older sister) decided to surprise us all too.
The plan was to pack up a picnic and take it to Crookes Valley Park - a beautiful park that you can see on the drive up to my house and a place Dad has wanted to go to since we moved into the area. However, as it was my birthday - I requested that we made a slight detour to Ecclesall Woods first.
Despite getting completely lost in the woods (to be honest, we didn't expect it to be so big) we had a great time exploring every nook and cranny. Mum and I spent most of the time talking about how lovely a forest wedding would be (i'd love an outdoor wedding) and pointed out cute spots to have a ceremony. Meanwhile Holli, Dad and John found some amazing little dens, hidden away among the over grown trees and the pathways. Dad was also on form with his jokes! You have to watch the video (above) to listen to him in action.
When we left the house it was quite a cold morning and the sunshine hadn't surfaced but by the time we got back to the car the weather completely changed, just in time for our next pit stop - Crookes Valley Park. We pitched up with our blankets and a picnic (big enough to feed a small class of children) on the grass area overlooking the lake and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon.
To end the day, we walked over to Weston Park (which is conveniently located next door) so that I could show mum and dad another potential wedding idea of holding the ceremony inside the blue band stand. We spent another couple of hours in this park, enjoyed an ice cream (thanks Holli), had a walk round to see the Herd of Elephants and then headed back home.
What a great day!
Krissie
